Hand Propping A Baby Ace
Setting the Throttle After She Starts
I owned several airplanes like this Baby Ace (that required hand propping) and found that the best technique for me was to hand prop the airplane from the backside of the propeller like this gentlman (I am not recommending how to hand prop an airplane; I am only stating my opinion of what worked best for me). Several other pilots had told me of this procedure and once I tried it I was hooked forever. I imagine that I have hand propped airplanes (mostly Piper J-3 Cubs and Baby Aces) hundreds of times in this manner with much less worry or concern than propping from the front using chocks and ground ties (which should be used in either event), If the owner or hand propper see this web page drop me an e-mail and tell me about your Baby Ace flying experiences and I will share them on this website. Cooling the corn!
Looks like a nice country runway next to a corn field. Can't find a nicer setting for a Baby Ace except maybe in the sky!
